The .xyz domains in DNS today
| MX query, 5 Nov 2026 | Domains |
|---|---|
| MX record present | 612 (91%) |
| No MX record (domain exists) | 15 (2%) |
| Gone (NXDOMAIN) | 45 (7%) |
| Lookup failed (SERVFAIL) | 2 (0%) |
One MX query per domain through Cloudflare's DNS-over-HTTPS resolver on 5 November 2026, over the 674 .xyz names in our disposable domains list (the copy our tools use, taken 16 October 2026). Only 7% are gone, a low share for this list as a whole, where 18% of all domains returned NXDOMAIN on the same day. That fits how young the .xyz names are.
When they were added
| First listed | Domains | Gone by 5 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 or earlier | 6 | 3 (50%) |
| 2019 | 1 | 1 (100%) |
| 2020 | 1 | 0 (0%) |
| 2023 | 1 | 0 (0%) |
| 2024 | 2 | 1 (50%) |
| 2025 | 12 | 7 (58%) |
| 2026 | 651 | 33 (5%) |
Dates are each domain's first appearance in the public Git history of the disposable-email-domains project; "2018 or earlier" means the name was already in the file when that history begins on 8 October 2018. Before 2026 the list had only a couple of dozen .xyz names, among them older services such as 10minut.xyz and 10mail.xyz.
One change on 12 October 2026
523 of the .xyz names were first listed in October 2026, and 522 of those arrived in one change, #1208, titled "Add new disposable domains from throwaway.io." They don't share an MX name: 515 publish their own host, mail.<domain>, for example mail.247fixit.xyz. Our October 2026 page lists every one of them and shows that their mail hosts all resolved to one IP address. Many of the names read like local repair businesses, which is why a person glancing at an address won't spot them and a list check will.
| Date | Change | Added |
|---|---|---|
| 12 October 2026 | Add new disposable domains from throwaway.io. (#1208) (627edfd) | 522 |
| 5 June 2026 | Add missing domains from sources (#1004) (ce7c1aa) | 26 |
| 8 October 2018 | use neutral language for naming and describing assets in this repo (7448bb6) | 6 |
| 23 August 2026 | Add missing domains from sources (#1130) (2b8552c) | 6 |
| 15 March 2026 | Add generator.email domains (#903) (3e784cd) | 6 |
Mail servers behind the .xyz names
| Mail server (MX) | Domains |
|---|---|
| GPTMail | 51 |
| Tinyhost | 1 |
| generator.email | 5 |
| emailfake.com | 7 |
| TEMPMAIL.TW | 2 |
| Cloudflare Email Routing (forwarding) | 8 |
| Any other mail server | 538 |
The throwaway.io names fall under "any other mail server" here because each one names a different host. 51 deliver to GPTMail's server, and 45 are all-digit names such as 092088.xyz and 179297.xyz, and 26 of those 45 are on GPTMail's servers too.
Blocking .xyz: the ending is a weak signal
A few hundred listed names is a tiny slice of an ending that anyone can register, so rejecting every .xyz address will turn away real people. Check the domain against the list, then look at its mail server, as our guide on how sites detect disposable email explains. On the user's side, temp mail on any ending is fine for a quick sign-up, but for something you'll need again, like a trial you plan to keep, a 7 days mail inbox or a plus address generator alias on your own mailbox lasts longer than a one-off domain.
Other endings we have broken down: .de, .ru, Freenom (.tk, .ml, .ga, .cf, .gq).

Questions
How many .xyz domains are on the disposable email list?
674 in our copy of the list (16 October 2026), and 677 in the upstream list on 5 November 2026. Only .com and .net are more common on the list.
Should I block every .xyz email address?
No. The list holds a few hundred .xyz names, while the ending is open to anyone and used by ordinary sites and people. Block listed domains, and treat the ending at most as a weak signal next to a list check and an MX check.
Why are there so many .xyz temp mail domains in 2026?
Mostly one change. On 12 October 2026, #1208 added 522 .xyz domains from throwaway.io, and 515 of them ran a mail host named after the domain itself (such as mail.247fixit.xyz) on 5 November 2026. GPTMail's servers handle another 51.
Are the .xyz temp mail domains still working?
Most are. On 5 November 2026, 612 of the 674 had an MX record and 45 no longer existed.
