Volt Ghost vs Temp-Mail

Temp-Mail (temp-mail.org) is one of the biggest disposable email services, with apps, a browser extension and a paid Premium plan. Volt Ghost is a small, free web inbox built around longer lifetimes and a recovery link. Here's an honest look at where each one fits.

Disclosure: we run Volt Ghost. Every Temp-Mail detail below comes from its FAQ, its terms of service and its App Store listing, as they read on 18 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check their site before you decide. If anything here is wrong, tell us and we'll correct it.

Where Temp-Mail is the better pick

  • You need an attachment. A PDF ticket, an invoice or a sample file: Temp-Mail receives files and lets you download them. Volt Ghost drops attachments by design.
  • You want a native app or extension. Temp-Mail has mobile apps with push notifications and a browser extension. Volt Ghost is a website (installable as a home-screen web app).
  • You need many addresses or a month of storage. Its Premium plan offers up to 10 mailboxes, a month of storage, premium domains and private domains. That's a paid feature set we don't offer.

Where Volt Ghost is the better pick

  • The email takes a while. Approval emails, trial reminders and second-step confirmations can come hours later, past a 2-hour storage window. A Volt Ghost inbox keeps everything for a day, and a free extension stretches it to a week.
  • You'll come back from your phone. Every Volt Ghost inbox has a private recovery link. Open it on any device, before expiry, to see the same address and mail. There's no account to create.
  • A form dislikes random usernames. Our default addresses look like a person's name. That helps with filters that score random-looking usernames, though no temp mail gets past a site that blocks every disposable domain.
  • You don't want ads or upsells. Volt Ghost has no ads and nothing to buy.

Privacy and safety

Neither service needs an account for the free version, and neither can send mail. Temp-Mail's FAQ says personal details and IP address are removed after the mailbox period is over. Volt Ghost keeps mail in a database until the inbox expires and then deletes it. Anyone holding the recovery link can open the inbox until then, so keep that link private. Our privacy page explains what we store and for how long.

Whichever you use, don't put a disposable address on an account you'll need later, such as banking, work or anything with your money in it. Our guide on when not to use temp mail covers why.

How we checked

On 18 October 2026 we read Temp-Mail's FAQ, its terms of service (which list free and Premium features and web prices) and its App Store page (app prices differ by store and country). We didn't test delivery speed, spam filtering or uptime, and we make no claims about them for either service. Volt Ghost's details describe how our service works today, as on our about page.

Questions

Is Temp-Mail or Volt Ghost better for verification codes?

Both receive verification emails for free. Temp-Mail's terms say free mail is stored for about 2 hours, while Volt Ghost keeps an inbox for 24 hours (extendable once, free, up to 7 days), so Volt Ghost suits codes or links that may arrive late.

Can Volt Ghost receive attachments like Temp-Mail?

No. Volt Ghost is receive-only text and HTML: attachments aren't stored. Temp-Mail's free version says it receives attachments and lets you download them, so use Temp-Mail if you need a file.

Does either service let you send email?

No. Temp-Mail's FAQ says sending is disabled and won't be added because of fraud and spam. Volt Ghost is receive-only too.

Is Volt Ghost a paid service?

No. Volt Ghost is free with no paid plan and no ads. Temp-Mail is free with an optional Premium plan, priced in its terms at 10 US dollars a month or 60 dollars a year.
