MX lookups for all 343 names through Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS on 5 November 2026. Across the whole list copy, 18% of domains were NXDOMAIN that day; on these five endings it is 95%. Every listed .cf and .gq domain is gone.
What happened to Freenom's free domains
Freenom ran free registrations for Tokelau (.tk), Mali (.ml), Gabon (.ga), the Central African Republic (.cf) and Equatorial Guinea (.gq). Free, anonymous names made these endings popular with temp mail sites, and with spammers and phishers too, which led to a lawsuit from Meta. Freenom stopped new registrations in early 2023. Gabon's registry took .ga back in June 2023, and Mali's contract with Freenom ended on 17 July 2023, after which the free .ml offer stopped. Free names that weren't moved to a paid registration dropped out of DNS, which is what the table above shows.

320 of the 343 were already in the list file when its Git history begins on 8 October 2018. A few were added later, such as 10mail.tk, flymail.tk and minimail.gq (#383, 23 August 2023), and a handful in 2026 from bulk "missing domains" updates. Those were gone by the time we checked as well.
The few that still answer
12 names still had an MX record on 5 November 2026. 5 of them, such as fixmail.tk and domforfb1.tk, point it at localhost, which means no outside server can deliver to them. The other 7 use their own server, Cloudflare Email Routing or a registrar's mail forwarding: dev-null.ml, emailfreedom.ml, inbax.tk, justemail.ml, kazelink.ml, mailadresi.tk, mailbox52.ga.
What this means
For a blocklist, keep these names: they cost nothing and protect you if one is registered again. For a sign-up form, a .tk or .ml address today is very likely undeliverable, so an email address validator that checks for a mail server will catch it even before the list does. And if you use temp mail yourself, pick a service whose domains are alive and whose inbox you can get back to; long-running services keep their own domains, as our Volt Ghost vs Mailinator comparison shows. If a site rejects a working temp address, a temp mail with a real name won't help when the block is on the domain itself.

Questions
Are .tk temp mail domains still working?
Almost none. Of 101 listed .tk domains, 93 returned NXDOMAIN on 5 November 2026. 5 of the 12 Freenom-ending names that still had an MX record pointed it at localhost, which can't receive mail from outside.
Why did the Freenom domains disappear?
Freenom stopped handing out free names in early 2023, and Gabon (.ga, June 2023) and Mali (.ml, July 2023) took their registries back and ended the free offer. Free names that nobody moved to a paid registration dropped out of DNS.
Should these domains stay on a disposable email blocklist?
Yes. Keeping a dead name listed costs nothing, and if anyone registers it again it is blocked from day one.
Do temp mail services still add .tk or .ml domains?
Rarely. Only 11 Freenom-ending names were first listed after mid-2023, and 10 of them were already gone on 5 November 2026.
