MX records for yahoo.com, ymail.com and aol.com
Read through Cloudflare's DNS-over-HTTPS resolver on 29 October 2026:
| Domain | Priority | MX hosts |
|---|---|---|
yahoo.com | 1 (all three) | mta5.am0.yahoodns.net, mta6.am0.yahoodns.net, mta7.am0.yahoodns.net |
ymail.com | 10 (all three) | the same three am0.yahoodns.net hosts |
aol.com | 10 | mx-aol.mail.gm0.yahoodns.net |
Yahoo's choice of three hosts on one priority is the textbook way to spread load: a sending server picks among equal-priority records at random, so incoming mail divides across all three rather than piling onto a primary. When we resolved mta5 alone, it returned eight IPv4 addresses. Gmail does the opposite and ranks its servers 5 to 40 (see the Gmail MX records).
SPF, DMARC and MTA-STS
| Domain | SPF | DMARC | MTA-STS |
|---|---|---|---|
yahoo.com | v=spf1 redirect=_spf.mail.yahoo.com | p=reject; pct=100 | published |
ymail.com | v=spf1 redirect=_spf.mail.yahoo.com | p=reject; pct=100 | not published |
aol.com | v=spf1 redirect=_spf.mail.yahoo.com | p=reject; pct=100 | not published |
The headline here is DMARC p=reject. Gmail and Outlook.com only monitor their main domain; Yahoo tells the world to bounce anything that pretends to be from yahoo.com, ymail.com or aol.com without passing authentication. Two practical effects follow. First, a contact form or newsletter tool that puts a visitor's @yahoo.com address in the From line can expect receivers that honour DMARC to reject it, so such tools should send from their own domain and put the visitor in Reply-To. Second, spoofed "Yahoo" phishing is easier for receivers to drop. Yahoo, like Google, has required bulk senders to authenticate since February 2024 (Yahoo sender best practices).
Checking a Yahoo or AOL address
MX records only tell you that a domain accepts mail, not that a particular mailbox exists. To see whether an address is at least well formed and on a live domain, use the email validator; to see the provider behind a custom domain (some small businesses still route mail through Yahoo), use the email host lookup, which recognises yahoodns.net. If you just need somewhere for a one-off confirmation link and would rather not hand out a Yahoo address, a burner email receives it and deletes itself after 24 hours.
Questions
What are the MX records for yahoo.com?
Three hosts, all at priority 1: mta5.am0.yahoodns.net, mta6.am0.yahoodns.net and mta7.am0.yahoodns.net.
Does aol.com use Yahoo's mail servers?
Yes. aol.com's single MX record is mx-aol.mail.gm0.yahoodns.net at priority 10, and its SPF record redirects to Yahoo's _spf.mail.yahoo.com.
What does Yahoo's DMARC p=reject mean?
It asks every receiving server to refuse mail that claims to be from @yahoo.com but fails both SPF and DKIM alignment. That is why newsletters and forms can't send 'from' a yahoo.com address through their own servers.
Is ymail.com still a working Yahoo domain?
Its DNS is still active: on 29 October 2026 it listed the same three yahoodns.net hosts as yahoo.com, at priority 10.
